A new breakthrough as much as the internet was in the 1990 will come with the fifth generation of wireless communication technologies (5G). The 5G network will be the foundation to realize the full potential of the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, and it will have a key role to play in the evolution of communication, business and society as a whole. 5G is a platform for innovation that will not only improve the actual mobile broadband services, but it will also spread the use of mobile networks to support the interconnection of a vast variety of devices and services. An efficient and universal 5G network will required an unprecedented capacity and the only transport media capable of scaling to such demand is the optical fiber. To this end, the optimal use of existing optical fiber-based networks, supported by modern solutions, is being sought.
InPhotech, as a high-tech company, focuses on the development of new generation optical fibers that increase data transmission capacity. This is achieved by introducing many additional cores, i.e. transmission channels, in an optical fiber without modifying the external dimensions and transmission properties of the currently available standard optical fibers with a single core. Thanks to this, the installation and operation costs of the telecommunications connections can be significantly reduced while multiplying its capacity.
In InPhotech we expect a significant demand of multicore optical fibers driven by the widespread deployment of 5G. For this reason, we are preparing to meet these needs. We received the prestigious SME instrument Phase II grant from the European Commission for the optimization and implementation of our IPT-Core optical fiber. Besides we are investing in a new optical fiber plant where we will enter the mass production phase with the optimized technology. InPhoTech also takes part in emerging standardization projects that will become the foundation to future telecommunication standards.
